The University of Bucharest launched on September 5th, 2012, a humanitarian campaign for one of our beloved professors and prestigious member of the international academia, Ms. Adela Rogojinaru, Associate Professor at The Faculty of Letters.
Our dear professor has been diagnosed with melanoma or multiple metastatic skin cancer, a disease that can be treated by aggressive intervention with Zelboraf chemotherapy. Due to high costs (hospitalization and treatment), Ms. Adela Rogojinaru was transported to Romania and started treatment on September 10th, 2012. As a result of our movement, purchasing Zelboraf and paying for some of the hospitalization were possible. Under treatment with Zelboraf, condition of Ms. Adela Rogojinaru improved significantly, as confirmed by the attending physician: “The patient shows an obvious clinical response to treatment with Zelboraf" (Dr. Florin Băcanu). Zelboraf treatment will continue for at least 6 months. After that, doctors recommend increasing the antitumor immune response by starting a treatment with Yervoy (ipilimumab).
The positive reaction coming from teachers, students, alumni, colleagues and friends of Ms. Adela Rogojinaru, as well as from representatives of businesses and companies resulted in impressive donations: the amount donated until November 7th, 2012 extents to 82,577 Euro. The humanitarian campaign “We save a professor, we save generations!”, initiated by the University of Bucharest for Ms. Adela Rogojinaru, continues with the help of the general public, academia members, industry specialists, business persons or students.

During the past two months, we appreciated your solidarity expressed through messages, but mainly through concrete actions that led to incredible results. This could not have occurred without believing that saving a teacher means saving several generations of young aspiring professionals. Ms. Adela Rogojinaru was the glue that unified our thoughts and actions. We owe it to her. That is why we ought to define our further efforts so that in the end we can say that we have all been part of the campaign "We save a professor, we save generations!".
This represents only the beginning of a great collective achievement and we all should have in mind the words of Ms. Adela Rogojinaru:
“My dear friends from the PR industry and business environment, who cherish one’s life more than material goods,
my dear friends from all over the world, who generously offered your moral and financial support and who expressed faith regarding the improvement of my condition,
my dear students and alumni from whom I receive kindhearted and encouraging messages every day, with whom I’ve always talked about altruism without ever knowing the extraordinary power that it could generate, as proven in my case by and through your collective efforts,
my dear colleagues, who kindly gathered and dedicated your time to helping me and who make me believe that, one day, I will regain my strength and come back to university,
I thank you all from my heart for being here for me and for helping me surpass these difficult moments.” Adela Rogojinaru.
We call on the entire academia, PR experts, the business environment, her former students, as well as all who can assist with any financial contribution in order to provide the chemotherapy treatment, which has a good chance of success, taking into consideration the evolution of this case.
